Elyria Sports Hall of Fame Mission

The Elyria Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1971 as a non-profit civic organization dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the historical development of athletics and sports in general and its impact on our culture by collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting its collections for the community of Elyria and well as the global audience, by honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to our National Sporting pastimes. Through it’s mission, the ESHOF is committed to:

Honoring, by enshrinement, those individuals and organizations who had exceptional careers and records, and recognizing them for their significant achievements in sports

Collecting, through donation, specific sporting artifacts and other collectibles of those individuals and organizations who have made special achievements in the world of sports, photographs, memorabilia, and any other related materials which focus and document the history of sports figures from and in Elyria, over time, and especially those elected and enshrined into the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame.
Preserving and Exhibiting it’s donated collection of sports memorabilia in a permanent gallery space, maintaining a permanent record of holdings through documentation, study, research, cataloging and publication. Organizing on-site changing exhibitions on various themes, with works from the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame collections or other sources, working with other individuals or organizations to exhibit loaned material of significance and providing related research facilities.
Interpreting artifacts through its exhibition and education programs to enhance awareness, understanding and appreciation of sports for our diverse audience.
